Tomas Enguidanos Now, back to the Grammy talk, Jim Nunally was telling me that there is this whole process to get your CD noticed by people who vote for the Grammies. You know, kissing babies, greasing palms...It seemed a bit

running for office and for a guy

me, not worth the time and effort, since I have such a lucrative career as a elementary school teacher. But I can see how it might help some folks sell CDs.

Randy Pitts Think of little Elvis...seriously, it is a way to sell 'product' and a way of establishing name recognition, so obviously, there's always politicking involved...sometimes artistic merit comes into play, but it's pretty much incidental...but every winner's price goes up, at least for awhile...

Tracy Pierce I just saw a rock doc about Pearl Jam. One of the members was showing his memorabilia and found a dusty Grammy forgotten in a corner. Not sure most musicians really care a lot about music awards.

Randy Pitts On a certain level, it can change an artist's career arc...witness Bonnie Raitt before and after her big Grammy night about 15 years ago...her career as a touring artist had slowed to a crawl, and her albums before the big night were slow sellers...it's been onward and upward ever since...

Tracy Pierce Was it originally intended to give musicians a pat on the back or sell more records? I don't remember.

Randy Pitts Both...mostly to sell records...

Tomas Enguidanos I don't know if this is relevant, but I sure do love fresh peaches :))

Randy Pitts Irrelevant, but we're humane people and will consider the source...won't we Tracy?
