Do you know a child?Do you know a CBA child between the ages of 3 and 17 that needs an instrument? Do you have an instrument in your closet or attic that you don’t need, that a child could use?The Kids Instrument Lending Library was the brainchild of Darrell Johnston, past CBA Treasurer, who had a great love for bluegrass and old time music and was deeply passionate about children learning to play Bluegrass Music. His idea for this program began when he learned about one young girls’ desire and need for a fiddle. Darrell bought that child a fiddle with his own money and that was the beginning of the Darrell Johnston Kids Instrument Lending Library. The program has grown in the past decade; our library consists of over one hundred bluegrass-related instruments and we have dozens and dozens of kids around California who are playing them.If you know of a child who’d like to take up bluegrass or old time music but doesn’t have an instrument to play; if you’re in possession of a playable guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, dobro or bass and would like to make it part of the Lending Library; or if you’re a luthier and might be interested in helping us maintain our collection, please take a minute to look around the Darrell Johnston Kids Instrument Lending Library web page and then use the contact information provide below.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Donations to the Lending Library are tax deductible. However, valuation of instruments, that is, setting an estimated value of the donation, is the responsibility of the donor.
